Ethics in Education
Nebraska EMS Educator Symposium

Goal: This 90-minute presentation discusses the educator’s responsibilities to the student, the community and to the profession.
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, each participant will be able to:
1) Identify healthcare vs. educational ethical standards;
2) Discuss ethics vs. morality;
3) Identify Swick’s elements of professionalism;
4) Discuss ethical considerations in student evaluation, counseling, diversity, conflicts of interest, collegial relationships, and confidentiality;
5) Define the main points of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA);
6) Through case study, discuss incidents where EMS instructors violated ethical standards.
